How is Stockholm's style characterized? and what brands are required to call it that?
Stockholm's style is unique and characterized by simplicity, modernity and minimalism. The style extends over clothes, shoes and accessories with a clear Scandinavian expression. We have chosen to interview our fashion-fascinated co-owner, Michael Falken. He dresses everyday according to the Stockholm style.
In this blog post we have therefore specialized in following the latest trends in the Stockholm style fashion scene, many clothes are characterized by a simplicity where jeans, sweaters and t-shirts form the basis.
Clothes, shoes and accessories
Scandinavian fashion, with its mix of modern and classic elements, is highly appreciated. Neutral color palettes such as black, white and gray dominate. Cozy knitted garments, such as sweaters from Arket, are wearable through different seasons. Shoes, such as those from Ganni, tend to have a more elegant touch. And accessories, often from premium brands, complete the look.
There are two different styles:
-
Stockholm style for girls
Swedish brands such as Acne Studios, Filippa K and Totême have created a style that emphasizes Scandinavian purity, function and elegance. Here we see neutral color palettes with soft pastels, straight jeans, knitted sweaters and accessories from luxury brands such as Zadig & Voltair -
Stockholm style for guys
This fashion emphasizes simplicity and exclusivity. Minimalist silhouettes appear year after year, with a focus on style and comfort. Neutral colors such as navy blue and gray are popular. Basic items such as jeans from ARKET, sweaters from ZARA and shoes from VALENTINO complete the look.
How is the Stockholm style purchased?
When it comes to purchasing Stockholm-style clothing, the options vary depending on one's budget. For those looking for more affordable options, chains like Zara and HM offer a myriad of stylish choices. For those with a bigger budget and looking for higher quality and unique designs, brands like Acne Studios and Arket are at the fore.
The basic wardrobe (A must for every individual)
The basic wardrobe for a girl in Stockholm style can consist of a knitted sweater from Arket, a skirt from Zara, a bag from Zadig & Voltaire and shoes from Ganni. For guys, it can consist of a knitted sweater from ZARA, a t-shirt from COS, jeans from ARKET and shoes from VALENTINO. These basics can be mixed and matched to create several different looks, from casual casual to more dressed up.
The seasonal inspiration can vary, says Falken

Style identity
For those who are unsure of their own style, it is recommended to explore different looks to find what feels most "right". It can be about trying an everyday look, a preppy style or even punk rock. The Stockholm style offers a timeless and elegant base to build on, but it is important to add personal touches to create a unique style identity, an example could be jewelery from Stockholm.

The influence of Stockholm style on the fashion world
Internationally, Stockholm has been recognized as a fashion center, especially when it comes to defining Scandinavian aesthetics. Many global fashion enthusiasts turn to Stockholm's fashion week, stores and design studios to catch the latest trends and find inspiration.
Evolving trends
Although the Stockholm style is rooted in minimalism and functionality, it is not immune to change. Every season we see how designers experiment with new textures, colors and silhouettes. Yet, regardless of the small changes, the core of the design is always true to the basic principles of simplicity and quality.
The accessories you must have to be classified as "Stockholm style"
It is often said that "the details make the whole", and this is especially true when it comes to the Stockholm style. Luxurious bags, jewelry and other accessories from premium brands add that extra layer of sophistication to an otherwise simple outfit. Such accessories often become signature pieces, bearers of one's personal story and taste.
How will the Stockholm style of the future be if Susanna Falken gets to decide?
With an increased global awareness of sustainability and ethics in the fashion industry, the future of Stockholm style is likely to place greater emphasis on sustainable materials and production methods. We are already seeing a trend towards more ecologically responsible choices and ethical purchasing decisions among both designers and consumers in Stockholm.
What is NOT Stockholm style?
Stockholm is often synonymous with minimalist and trendy fashion, but not all styles fall within the framework of what is considered typical 'Stockholm style'. Here are three examples of fashion choices that are not considered to be in line with this style:
-
In Stockholm, it is common to prefer subtlety and simplicity; therefore, flashy, large jewelry or accessories are rarely considered in good taste.
-
Dressing in elegant and formal Finnish shoes for casual or everyday events is not considered to follow Stockholm fashion etiquette. You can find more information about Finnish shoes at Skolyx .

While the athleisure trend has its followers globally, it is less common in Stockholm to see clear sportswear such as hoodies or jogging pants used in non-sporting contexts.
