Hur vet man om det är silver

How do you know if it is silver?

How do you know if it is silver? Silver is a very popular choice when it comes to jewellery. The beautiful white metal is not only beautiful but also durable, while costing much less than other precious metals. Therefore, it is not surprising that silver jewelery sells well in physical stores as well as in online shops. How do you know if the product you received is really made of silver?

How do you check if it is silver?

If you buy silver jewelry or other silver items in a reputable store, they are guaranteed to be genuine. However, it may be different if you order something via the internet or shop abroad. Foreign stores in particular are difficult for the Swedish authorities to control. The quality can therefore be questionable, even if the companies should comply with international laws.

An easy way to check if the product is really silver is to look at the stamps. If it is real silver, it should say 900, 925, 800 or 830. The number indicates how much silver the object is made of. It may also say "Sterling" or "Ster", indicating that the item is sterling silver. Then it is 92.5% pure silver.

How do you test silver at home?

There are several tests you can do at home to see if a product is genuine silver. An example is to use bleach and pour a small drop onto the metal. If it turns dark, i.e. oxidizes, it is real silver. You can also place the jewelry next to a magnet. If it is real silver, it will not react very strongly to the magnet. If, however, it sticks to the magnet, it is not silver.

The metal can also be checked using an ice cube. All you have to do is place the ice cube on the silver object and see what happens. Silver has very high thermal conductivity, which means that the ice cube will melt quickly if it is real silver.
