Vilken hand har man ringen på

Which hand is the ring on?

Which hand is the ring on? Rings have long been used by people in different cultures. They can symbolize everything from love to one's own personality or an opinion that one wants to convey. Today we wear rings pretty much however we want, but did you know that there are certain traditions or "rules" about which hand you should wear a ring on?

What does ring on right hand mean?

Why one wears a ring on the right hand varies between different cultures. In many European countries, for example, the engagement ring is worn on the right ring finger before getting married. It symbolizes that you have made an agreement, i.e. the decision to get married.

The right ring finger symbolizes love and trust

The right ring finger also symbolizes trust, love or family. Therefore, other rings with greater sentimental value are often worn on the right ring finger. Often, for example, you wear rings that you inherited or received from family members.

Why do you wear the ring on your left hand?

The tradition of wearing a ring on the left ring finger already existed during the time of the Romans and the ancient Egyptians. It still exists in large parts of the world and that is precisely why in many countries rings are worn on the left hand. It is mainly about the wedding ring, but in Sweden and the USA, for example, the engagement ring is also worn on the same hand.
This is because the left ring finger not only symbolizes love, but also promises and commitment. A ring on the left ring finger therefore usually means that you have made an important promise to another person.

The left ring finger symbolizes the heart

There is also a belief that the left ring finger is directly connected to the heart via a certain blood vessel. Therefore, a ring on that finger is meant to symbolize something that is close to our hearts and that we want to honor. So it doesn't have to be about a couple relationship, but it can also be something else that is important to us.
