Vilken metall irriterar inte huden

Which metal does not irritate the skin?

Which metal does not irritate the skin? To reduce the risk of skin irritation when wearing metal jewelry, you should avoid using metals that contain nickel. There are also metals that contain nickel, but where it is so tightly bound that almost no nickel is released. Then it rarely causes irritation on the skin.

Irritation of gold

Gold jewelry should not contain nickel and should not irritate your skin. However, some people are still aware of their nickel allergy even though they wear jewelry made of real gold. The reason for that may be that even gold can contain impurities, which consist of nickel. If you are very sensitive, you can therefore also get sensations from gold jewellery.

Silver

Silver also does not contain nickel, but silver jewelry can often also contain other substances. These in turn may contain a certain amount of nickel, which can cause irritation to the skin.

Titanium and stainless steel

Titanium is a good material for those whose skin is easily irritated by metal jewellery. Titanium is, together with 24 carat gold, the only material used to make jewelry that is 100% nickel-free. Therefore, titanium is used in surgery, for example in prostheses and the like.

Stainless steel 316L contains nickel, but it is very tightly bound. Therefore, the metal does not emit nickel and usually does not cause irritation on the skin.

Which metal can cause a rash on the skin?

White gold is a material that can often cause rashes on the skin of sensitive people, but all metals except titanium, silver, gold and platinum can cause rashes on the skin. It is common to get a rash from cheaper metal alloys, as they often contain a high content of nickel.

You may have to try your hand at which metals you get a rash from. Also keep in mind that, for example, white gold can consist of different alloys, and can therefore act in different ways.
